On behalf of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) in the spring of 2008, Williams conducted a conceptual options heating study for the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) Cereal Research Centre’s Science Laboratory building, located on the University of Manitoba campus in Winnipeg.
Plagued with numerous operational and maintenance problems over the years, the Cereal Research Centre’s steam heating system for the Science Laboratory building had experienced frequent, unexpected, and prolonged shutdown periods. The 50 year old heating system is now in need of substantial overhaul or replacement.
Williams' conceptual options heating study provided AAFC with the identification and study of four viable options to provide supplementary heating for the Science Laboratory building. As the building is in need of adequate cooling in addition to its heating challenges Williams also gave consideration to a means of providing cooling for this approximately 80,000 ft2 facility.
