This year the staff at Williams Engineering Canada (WE) did something special to raise funds for charity. United Way helps improve lives and build communities by engaging individuals across Canada, and what better way to inspire people than through music.
On October 31, WE's staff performed a Halloween "Fun-raiser" concert to promote United Way. Chad Musselwhite, Joel Moreysmith, and Santiago Gomez performed songs by U2, Blue Rodeo, and Juanes for the staff and their families on an afternoon filled with music, food, and fun.
"I believe that the United Way is truly committed to making our community a better place and they do this by one act of kindness at a time," said Margot Ross-Graham, VP of Integration at Williams Engineering. "Many of the organizations that the United Way partners with would not receive funding or charitable donations if it were not for their connection to the United Way."
Santiago Gomez, IT Manager and 2009 Campaign Chairman, said all of Williams Engineering Canada's regions were united in this effort, "It was our first national campaign, all regions working as one." Also for the first time, they used United Way's online system instead of the traditional paper forms, in order to reduce paper waste and to give individuals full control over which organizations would receive their donations. This year the firm matched, dollar-per-dollar, all contributions made by employees.
With the 100% corporate match, WE raised more than $7,000, setting a new company record. "We have already started planning next year's campaign," said Gomez, "Our company is committed to helping elevate communities where we live and work through our projects and through organizations like United Way."
